is based upon a set of construction materials called PKI.
Bruce Schneier illustrates why the fundamental technology behind PKI is
so special:
"In real-world terms, it allows you and a friend to shout numbers at
each other across a crowded coffeehouse filled with mathematicians so
that when you are done, both you and your friend know the same random
number, and everyone else in the coffeehouse is completely clueless.
If this sounds ridiculous, it should. It sounds impossible. If you were
to survey the world’s cryptographers in 1975 they would have
told you it was impossible."

What is QEI?
The Quiet Enjoyment Infrastructure is a set of methods, procedures,
and standards for fixing the Internet.
Because, let's face it, The Internet is broken. People
tend to
look to security technologists for solutions to security
problems. The
latest effort to fix the Internet, The Clean Slate Design,
presents advanced construction materials technology.
The technologists have done their job well. The set of construction
materials upon which
we build our solution to Internet problems is called ID-PKI, which was
conceived in a flourish of new ideas that developed around what has
been called public key infrastructure (PKI) when that technology was
invented in the 1970's.
